BIOGRAPHY
Monica graduated Summa Cum Laude from Winston Salem State University where she received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Middle Grades Education – English Language Arts and Social Studies. As an undergraduate, she was a Millennium Teaching Scholar and a Chancellor Scholar. She has taught 7th Grade at GC Hawley Middle School and 6th Grade Language Arts at Ligon Magnet Middle School in Raleigh, NC. While teaching at Ligon, she also earned a Master of Education degree from Elon University in Gifted Education. From there, she became the Magnet Coordinator and AIG Coordinator at Moore Square GT/AIG Basics Magnet Middle School in downtown Raleigh. She served at Moore Square for three years and had the pleasure to help develop the Gifted and Talented/AIG magnet program alongside a fabulous team.
In 2016, Monica was invited by the Chancellor of Shaw University to take a special contract where she focused on Organizational Management and revamped their student programs and events. Upon the project's completion, Monica returned to the classroom as a 6th grade Language Arts in Durham Public Schools. These she also worked curriculum development and improving instruction by serving as an instructor in their Teacher Institute. In 2016, Monica returned to Wake County Public Schools where she currently teaches 8th Grade Language Arts at East Wake Middle School in Raleigh, NC. She also serves as the Language Arts Department Chair, Equity Team Founder, Grade-Level Chair, and as a member of the Restart Team. In her spare time, Monica enjoys spending time with her husband and son is also the mom to son, Christopher, who keeps her busy! Monica now actively serves as the Principal Resident at Knightdale Elementary School. |
