STANDARD SIX - External Development Leadership
A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but in fact build community, the leader proactively creates with staff opportunities for parents, community and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investments of resources and good will are not left to chance.

Passage Church Partnership
Knightdale Elementary is always looking for ways to partner with the community to enrich the learning experience of our students. Alongside the Assistant Principal and counselor, I met with Pastor, Matt Wall who shared his desire to partner with the school in the coming years. We discussed several ideas for next year and the proper channels we need to go through with the district to get the tutoring, mentorship and teacher appreciation programs started.

St. Augustines
I was asked to reach out to people in the community to find men who would be willing to help us by mentoring some boys at our school. This program would specifically target out students with multiple discipline infractions or those who would benefit from a male role model. I reached out to several community organizations and business such as St. Augustines University, NCSU Men's Basketball Team, local churches, Omega Psi Phi and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

6B - Federal, State, and District Mandates
The school executive designs protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state, and district mandates.
Crisis Prevention Training (CPI)
One of the most important trainings I attended as a school administrator was the CPI training provided by NELA and WCPSS. Both sessions combined taught me how to prevent disruptive behavior by communicating with individuals respectfully and with concern for their well-being. I was also taught the physical interventions to be used only as a last resort-when an individual presents an imminent danger to self or others. The training also showed me how to maintain an individual's dignity during this process.

Student Due Process Training
As a Principal Resident, I attended the Student Due Process training. This is a required training for WCPSS administrators to ensure that we understand the district policies regarding student discipline as changes made to old policies. As an administrative team we work together to calibrate our discipline process while being equitable regarding the needs of our students.

LEA Training
During my residency, I attended Local Educational Agency (LEA) training which taught me how to effectively support IEP meetings. This training focused on how to facilitate IEP meetings, provided compliance tips, and special education resources. I also learned how to get into ECATS and use it during special education meetings.
